Subject: A new JI scale

Hi all.
Here I'm sending a new scale I made yesterday. It contains a part of the
harmonic series up to the 16th harmonic (i.e. from C upwards) and also a
part of the subharmonic series up to the 16th subharmonic (from B
downwards). The interesting thing about this is that I managed to "squeeze"
all this into just a 12-tone scale.

Not only that, but a scale epimorphic with the standard val, and
constant structure. If someone wants to retune 12-equal music in a
seriously warped way, this would be one thing to try.

Very nice! -- but unfortunately not new. This is one of the two best
13-limit JI scales I came up with over 30 years ago:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tuning/message/60761

And I suspect that I may not have been the first to find these.

Hi ALL, Similarly for the raga-s. Some very beautiful raga "comes" to
you, quite independently. But, later, you are told that the same raga
has been in existence already, having a different name.

The originality and creativity of the later recipient of the gift, of
course, enjoys the same status as that of the first one.

Regards,
Haresh.

The Scala archive didn't have it, however.

Did you? And are there (somewhere) some recordings of music using this scale
then? If there are, I'd love to hear them. You certainly understand how keen
I am on music in these JI tunings, :)?

How did you determine that? In other words, how can one search for an
unnamed scale or tuning in the archive?

Use the "compare scale" command.

No, I wasn't particularly interested in subharmonics as an organizing
principle for tonality above the 5-limit, so I never used it for
anything.

It appears, therefore, that you may still have the opportunity to be
the very first to use this tuning in a composition (which I'd love to
hear).

You could also check with David B. Doty at the JI Network to see if
he knows of anyone who has used it.
